Tutorial : How to get your Blog lose PageRank 22

After a long month wherein my blog was hacked , rose to page rank 6 , then page rank 3 and again 2 , I decided that it was time for post about how to screw up your blog and easily lose   . Though , this post is filed under Tutorial category , that does not mean that you should read it step by step and actually get your blog nailed . Posted below are remedies in order to save your blog/website from getting slapped in the form of Search Engine Optimization , the mistakes I have committed and how you can prevent those ..

Not Posting for a long time

This is the most obvious reason ! And that’s the reward you get for your laziness – A tight slap from Google 😛 .Now in this case , I was forced not to post as I was not able to login as it was hacked . Still even if you are busy make sure you find the time or take time to blog . Make sure you are doing it deliberately , don’t post anything shitty just because you haven’t posted in a while 😀

Not updating your PING list

There are lots of sites like “ping-o-mattic” that updates multiple services and search engines about updates to weblog content, with a single ping but it’s better to keep a notifier list updated in your admin panel, and then it could take DAYS for your latest post to be listed in the serps. If you are not updating or have forgotten this part then you are sure shot to lose awesome amount of backlinks if you don’t add Important WordPress Ping List for SEO

You are not using A “.HTACCESS REDIRECT”

You might have discovered that your domain name is blotched across the web in both “www” and “http://” formats! This plays a leading role in removing and destroying the so-called “Google Link Juice”. If you are not using a  redirect , then it appears that you are referring to two different websites ! well not for me but for the Big G ! Nice way to weaken your own rank, and cost of the outbound link of the .

Your 404’s again are NOT Redirecting !

Nothing angers visitor than discovering that their well thought out anchor text to YOUR blog leads to ugly 404 error [unless you design and decorate that page]. Proper steps need to be taken or else you are on the right track for some Link juice theft

Do-Follow Greed

Now making your blog Do-Follow generates lots of traffic and comments ! Comments here refer to human but stupid ! I mean literally , even though some ass bloggers solve the captcha all they post is a shitty unwanted comment which pisses me off . Its great I moderate and block those commentors , but still some lucky bastards escape that and get featured in that post gaining hard earned backlink . Either make it no-follow or use Link-Love plugin so that you make it possible for only the loyal reader get the deserved SEO benefit . Same is applied for Keyword Love as well

Too much Comment Chatting
“great post”…”Thanks”…”No problem, glad you liked it”…”yeh man your post was great”… “Thanks man, I appreciate it”….”No seriously, it was really great”…” No dude, if only you were a girl”…

This is scary and that’s what I see in other [mine too but now its gone :D] blogs . I hope that you get my point. Try holding back your responses a while. Reduce the number of “eccentric” comments sent out via e-mail by 60% or 70% and give the spiders time to find your damn post! Remember that your readers should be respected but find if they are your readers or just Link Thirsty evil vampires …

Its time you read the comment policy on your blog which you copied a long time ago and start implementing

301 Redirects

Google has confirmed that 301 redirects will cause a tiny loss of Google juice and Pagerank as Google crawls across to the new page. In general, site owners and webmasters believe that 301 redirects are the best way to pass same pagerank, but be aware that some loss will occur in your SEO efforts.

Because otherwise people might start using 301 redirects instead of direct links to the sites. This ensures that 301 redirects are used only when required.

Selling Links

I don’t find this amusing but often get surprised when i see other bloggers writing about this . It’s okay to sell links but make sure they are not do-follow . By taking proper precautions , you can even sell 100 text links in your blog and still achieve giant page rank . Make sure text-link-ads are relevant and there’s more data and stuff on your blog than the ads embedded in there

Link Exchange

Why do link exchanges and get no traffic when you can gain a backlink and traffic for a particular cool comment ? Both the parties can be rescued from this severe loss . Also I find it funny when bloggers add Mashable and TechCrunch to their blogroll ! Are they paying you ? Do they even know of your blog’s existence ? Then why loose your blog’s power and lick those without any reason ?? Take a hint 😉

Not Posting to Social Media

Now Google+ posts are appearing on search results for free and grabbing those eyeballs and stealing the deserved traffic . Its time to create GooglePlus ! or is this GooglePlus’s SEO unethical ? Now more are the posts shared on twitter, facebook and other bookmarking sites , more are the chances of getting prestigious SERP . Its time to again work on bookmarking and sharing …

There were some of the obvious and stupid reasons , wherein I guarantee your blog will hit you hard . When blogging , some changes can only be made while the site is live. This works well, except that it can have negative drawbacks.Indexing is another factor and we need to check whether google bot crawls your blog on a regular frequency .  If your website/domain name was already indexed in the search engines, there is a risk of it being de-listed . However the greatest danger is when Google de-lists your site, It seems like you lose all of your page rank as well, even if the pre-existing links to your site are still in place. Nowadays that is a very unfortunate position to be in or perhaps, they are doing a complete re-engineering of their search algorithm.

On the optimistic side, it will make us work harder at SEO 😉

Excellent article! I am hardly using social media for posting articles and now I realized its benefit, thanks. If you can suggest an article on htaccess redirect, it might be quite useful.

First of all don’t be sad for losing PR. It’s just reputation, it doen’t mean blogging success. Secondly, I also agree about regular blog undate and others SEO basic tips. But I am not sure about 301 Redirects.
Ok, great article, thanks for share.

Does loosing PR means loosing SERPs?
I did only several of those lists and will do the rest. You remind me of one my blog that got banned by Google because of auto-generate content. Do you have solution to make it listed again? thanks

Even up to this time, we all think so highly of having a PageRank. Gaining and losing PR should not be the basis of blogging success because it is just a reputation more like a diploma in college. But not having a “diploma” would not make you and your blog a failure because after all, it’s your keywords that rank in SERPs that matter.

Not engaging into social media would definitely lose your track. Everyone’s into it and most of the readers are also found there. Also, when you are always selling on your post, the visitor would get irritated and might not visit again on your site.

PR is not that important. you can have a great website with low PR – and vice versa. All the same, given the choice, most of us would rather have a higher PR – so I will be avoiding your tips in future.

The link exchange is not only advantageous for getting higher number of visitors counts for website, but even it is helpful for increasing site’s page rank in major search engines.

However, link exchange method seems quite outdated these days perhaps I am wrong, but I think the popularity of link exchange strategy is going down, as most of the site owners opting other one way link building methods.

Anyway, the most important thing I’ve learned today through your blog post is “ importance of updating PING list”. This point is pretty new for me.

I am surprised at “not using A HTACCESS REDIRECT” can cost you PR loss… I think it’s a no-brainer and a little unfair; does Google’s Panda also treat www and http as two different sites?
Now, I just checked my blog’s root folder, it already has a .htaccess file, how should I edit it to avoid ‘juice loss’?

  20. Reply Christian@Linkaufbau Nov 18,2011 1:36 pm

Yes, I agree with you. This is a good approach to achieving people’s attention by talking about the negative aspects of a topic. While there are several ways we follow to achieve a good pagerank, these are some important aspects to be taken care so that the hard earned work is maintained at the top level. And regarding the www and http:// I thought it was good to get backlinks for www and http so that Google would think it is natural. But I did not know that it treats both as different.

Wow, a drop from PR6 to to 2 must have been pretty heartbreaking. Yeah, it’s just a number, but really to earn a 6 must have felt so good.
Anyway, must disagree on the point about links to Mashable, etc on the blogroll. I like to think of a dofollow link as an indicator to G “Hey, I really trust this site, and it’s worth looking at”. Also consider, G doesn’t want your site to be the end of the internet, it wants traffic to flow in and out through your site naturally, and having links to reputable sources is a good thing.
It’s also been proven that Blogroll links out take less juice than a nav link or a contextual link within your page.
Enjoy reading your writing, love your open and honest style. Take care.

It is very sad to hear that page rank sinked form PR6 to PR2. There are various steps that needs to be maintained continuously in order to maintain the PR. A slight mistake or laziness can be cause the down fall of the PR.
